1. Main Function of the Role

The Compliance and Contract Officer ensures organizational adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks while managing contracts and providing strategic compliance advice. This role supports the governance process, mitigates legal risks, and facilitates efficient service delivery in alignment with company policies and statutory requirements.

 

2. Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

A. Compliance and Legal Advisory

  • Provide legal advice on laws relevant to the organization, including the Labour Act and RFA legislation.
  • Draft legal opinions, legal documents, and routine correspondence.
  • Review policies and provide recommendations for legal compliance.
  • Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Issue letters of demand for arrears and assist with crisis management alongside management.

B. Contract Management

  • Oversee contract alignment with organizational goals and monitor value versus expenditure.
  • Liaise with divisions to address contract expiry and extensions.
  • Draft and review contracts, ensuring compliance and minimizing legal risks.

C. Governance

  • Compile quarterly governance reports for board submissions.
  • Draft governance recommendations for committees.
  • Monitor industry trends and advise on implementation strategies.
  • Ensure efficient service delivery and customer satisfaction.

D. Advisory Services

  • Provide guidance on constitutional and legal validity of administrative actions.
  • Advise management on the implications of policy, arbitration, and mediation requirements.
  • Offer input on consumer education materials and press releases.
  • Contribute to publications, forums, and consultations as needed.

E. Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties reasonably requested by supervisors or management.
  • Develop an understanding of the organization's policies and procedures.

F. Decision-Making

  • Address complex legal issues and provide solutions.
  • Perform routine tasks with limited decision-making authority.

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent). Postgraduate qualifications in compliance, legal practice, or corporate governance are advantageous.
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record in legal advisory roles, governance, or compliance.
    • Experience with contract drafting and management.
    • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations (e.g., Labour Act, RFA legislation).
