MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Responsible for overall stewardship, strategic direction and performance of the Botswana Stock Exchange in accordance with the Botswana Stock Exchange Act, national policy instruments, regional and international standards; to ensure the efficient regulation and the promotion and growth of vibrant and dynamic financial and capital exchange market.

Accountable for: All Stock Exchange staff

AUTHORITIES AND DIMENSIONS

Financial: Oversee the preparation of the Exchange’s budgets. Controls and approves expenditure with delegated limits of authority Co-signs Exchange’s cheques Controls bank accounts and investment of fund

Assets: Evaluates and recommends capital expenditure on property and equipment Disposal of assets

Human: Recommends recruitment of staff Evaluate performance and recommends performance related rewards Discipline of staff

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Lead the execution of the BSE strategy and business plans to optimize profitability, minimize risk and enhance returns to shareholders.
 
2. Oversee the adherence to risk standards, compliance with the BSE policies, procedures, quality of standards and industry regulations.
 
3. Oversee the implementation of the investment strategy which is aimed at maximizing returns and ensuring adequacy of operational cash flow.
 
4. Develop and maintain a wide range of business strategic relationships and networks as well as identifying opportunities for business development strategies and identifying niche market opportunities for the business. 
 
5. Oversee the development of people management strategies to provide efficient and effective services to all key stakeholders.
 
6. Manage financial and physical resources of the BSE economically, efficiently, effectively and in accordance with prudent management practices.
 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Masters in Finance, Economics or other related areas.

Experience:

  • Twelve (12) years’ experience of which five (5) years should be at executive position in an Exchange, Bank, Broking Company, Financial Regulator.
