County Fair, a division of Astral Operations Ltd has this opportunity for a qualified Quality Control Officer to join the team based in Epping, Cape Town.

The role of the Quality Control Officer is to ensure that food products and facilities meet standards set by both the company and regulatory authorities. Develop and review quality and food safety policies and procedures and manage 3rd party auditsΒ 

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant qualification in Food Technology
  • Sound Knowledge of FSSC 22000, GMP requirements and relevant guidelines Β and Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of statistical process control
  • 5 years manufacturing or FMCG Β experience

Computer Literacy using the following packages:

  • Excellent Computer Skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook)

The ideal candidate would be responsible for the following:​

  • Maintain Quality and Food Safety in the facility as per FSSC 22000, YUM, McDonalds and Nandos Criteria
  • Manage Quality Controllers
  • Contribute to maintaining the processing budget
  • Purchase orders for Quality
  • Control staff registers and monthly time sheets
  • Conduct brief plant inspections and facility inspections
  • Review records and corrective actions of previous day
  • Update quality report
  • Update all trends necessary for Quality purposes
  • Ensure sample plan followed
  • Conduct checks on maintenance to ensure quality checks are followed
  • Conduct checks on pest control service provider
  • Conduct mock recalls bi annually.
  • Maintain calibration of equipment is conducted before or on due date.
  • Plan and manage HACCP team meetings
  • Plan and manage HACCP plan reviews
  • Submit monthly Quality reports to Group Quality Manager
  • Conduct monthly internal HAS audit
  • Compile action plans for internal and external audits conducted
  • Ensure customer complaints closed off within 48 hour period
  • Review documents and records when required
  • Assist to facilitate external audits
  • Align process checks to process procedures
  • Assist with change management with new process, equipment and or products
  • Investigate product micro NCR's
  • Conduct Trials as a supporting function to new product development

Other requirements

  • Must be fluent in English & and any other official South African language (knowledge of other languages would be advantageous)
  • Key requirements include being commercially sound, deadline driven and having attention to detail
  • The ideal candidate should be hardworking, honest, self-motivated and disciplined and be able to work under extreme pressure;
  • It is essential that the candidate have a passion for implementing and maintaining a continuous workplace improvement program (20 Keys).
  • The chosen candidate must be proactive, have good management, communication and interpersonal skills as well as problem solving and planning skills;
  • Code 08 driver’s license and reliable transport is essential.
  • Management responsibilities and tasks can be re-assigned to ensure department effectiveness at the discretion of management.
  • Due to the nature of the job, the candidate must be able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
