1. Main Function of the Role

The primary role of the Buying Clerk is to ensure 100% stock availability for the branch by managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating better pricing, and coordinating stock-related processes. This includes engaging with the Procurement Department, providing customer advice, and ensuring operational excellence.

 

2. Key Performance Areas​

  • Oversee and coordinate stock replenishment for multiple branches
  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiate for best pricing and delivery
  • Monitor stock levels, slow-moving items, and ensure availability of core products
  • Follow up on overdue/outstanding Purchase Orders.
  • Arrange transport for respective branches stock orders.
  • Perform sales and merchandising when required

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have completed Grade 11 (New Curriculum) or Grade 12 (NSSC-O) with 22 marks.
  • 3 years’ experience in procurement or buying in the building and construction retail industry
  • Strong knowledge of product and supplier networks, Kerridge system, and stock planning
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
