1. Main Function of the Role

The Assistant Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing key sales and operational functions to support the achievement of the branch’s financial and performance targets. The role ensures effective buying, merchandising, stock control, and customer service functions while assisting or acting in the absence of the Branch Manager. This position plays a critical leadership role in driving profitability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

 

2. Key Performance Areas

  • Manage sales and operations to meet or exceed targets for profit, sales, working capital, and stock control.
  • Oversee the Buying function to ensure optimal stock availability and product appeal.
  • Supervise Receiving, Operations, Merchandising, Housekeeping, and Buyers to maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure attractive merchandising and stock presentation in line with company standards.
  • Lead and support the branch team in daily operations and serve as Acting Branch Manager when required.
  • Monitor and improve customer service performance across all departments.
  • Enforce company policies and maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment.

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Educational Requirement: Grade 11 (New Curriculum) or Grade 12 (NSSC-O) with 22 marks.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Commerce Degree (NQF Level 7).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of managerial experience in the Retail, FMCG, or Construction industry.
  • Knowledge Requirements:
    • Sales, Buying, Merchandising, Administration, and Yard Operations.
    • Experience with the “Kerridge” computer system is an added advantage.
  • License: Must hold a valid Code B Driver’s License.
