1. Main Function of the Role

The Forklift Driver is responsible for the efficient and safe movement, loading, and offloading of stock within the yard and dispatch areas. This includes operating the forklift to handle goods, assisting customers and delivery personnel, and ensuring that all stock is correctly placed and maintained. The role supports yard efficiency, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.

 

2. Key Performance Areas

  • Forklift Operations:
    • Conduct daily pre-use inspections and maintenance checks.
    • Load and offload goods from trucks and customer vehicles using the forklift.
    • Ensure safe and efficient stacking and movement of stock in accordance with company procedures.
    • Adhere strictly to forklift safety regulations.
  • Customer Service:
    • Offer professional, prompt assistance to customers during loading and offloading.
    • Represent the company positively in all interactions with clients and partners.
    • Support yard organization to enhance customer experience and operational flow.

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Education:
    • Grade 11 (New Curriculum) or Grade 12 (NSSC-O) with a minimum of 22 marks.
  • Experience & Licensing:
    • 1–2 years of proven experience as a forklift operator.
    • Valid forklift operating certificate.
    • Valid Code B driver’s license.
    • Fluent in English (verbal communication essential).

 

4. Skills and Attributes

  • Strong operational knowledge of forklift handling and safety standards.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven individual.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and focus on safety.
  • Ability to work under supervision and independently when needed.
  • Physically fit and able to manage manual duties associated with stock handling.
