1. Main Function of the Role

The Supervisor - Gardening Department is responsible for overseeing the operational efficiency, sales performance, and team management within the Gardening section. This dynamic role ensures the delivery of exceptional customer service, effective merchandising, and achievement of sales targets while maintaining compliance with company policies and safety standards.

2. Key Performance Areas

  • Shop Readiness & Merchandising – Ensure the department is clean, organized, and fully stocked with correctly labeled and merchandised products.
  • Sales & Customer Service – Drive sales through product knowledge and service excellence, including quotations, technical advice, and order follow-ups.
  • Staff Supervision – Motivate, train, and manage staff performance while maintaining discipline and policy adherence.
  • Stock Control – Monitor inventory levels, reduce stock shortages and excess, and assist in special and direct buyouts.
  • Telesales & Invoicing – Accurately respond to remote customer inquiries, compile orders, and ensure invoicing compliance.
  • Floor Walks &Β PPIΒ Counts – Conduct daily inspections and participate in product picking index (PPI) activities to support stock accuracy.
  • Health, Safety & Housekeeping – Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, hazard-free department.
  • Asset & General Management – Ensure departmental assets are protected and maintained; report any risk or security concerns.

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    At least 3 years of retail sales experience, preferably in hardware, building supplies, or FMCG industries.
  • Additional Advantage:
    Familiarity with the Kerridge system.
  • Certification in Horticulture will be an added advantage
