Role Purpose:

• The Chicken Business is currently recruiting for a Refrigeration Fitter to be based at the Chicken Processing Plant in Worcester (Western Cape) and report to Plant Engineer. The role will be responsible to support the Engineering department by ensuring proactive maintenance, repair and service of refrigeration equipment.

Required Qualifications:

• Grade 12 or NTC 3 (relevant trade)
• Trade test as a Refrigeration Technician - Ammonia
• Valid CAT B certificate

Required Experience:

• 4 - 5-years relevant experience (post qualification) as a Refrigeration Fitter
• 4 - 5 years relevant experience in ammonia
• Advantage - experience in freon gas
• Advantage - experience in multi-stage plant

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Ability to co-ordinate projects.
• Ability to do electrical breakdowns on refrigeration systems.
• Ability to do machining will be an advantage.
• Knowledge of poultry processing equipment would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of safety measures.
• Physically fit and able to work in cold conditions, typically below -40degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Maintain, repair, install refrigeration equipment, systems and compressed air plant.
• Daily refrigeration equipment inspection and pro-active remedial action to minimize breakdowns.
• Breakdowns on refrigeration equipment and standby duties.
• Perform safety inspections and draft reports.
• Attend to all scheduled maintenance.
• Prepared to work shifts, standby, call outs and overtime when required.
