Purpose of the role

Rainbow is on the lookout for an experienced Category Operations Manager. The Category Operations Manager will be responsible for streamlining and optimizing the operational aspects of our categories, with a strong focus on ensuring the execution of the category strategies. The role is currently based in Hammarsdale KZN.

 

Qualification & Experience

  • A degree or diploma in marketing or business management
  • 3 years relevant experience in a similar environment
  • FMCG experience and experience working in a matrix organisation would be advantageous.
  • Valid Code EB drivers’ license

 

Key Responsibilities

Category Strategy Execution:

  • Collaborate extensively with Category Strategy Managers to implement and operationalize strategies and initiatives for each product category.
  • Actively contribute to the development and execution of category-specific plans and tactics.

Assortment Management:

  • Oversee and actively participate in assortment planning and optimization within the category, ensuring a harmonious blend with category goals and market demand.
  • Execute front-end activities related to assortment, staying attuned to customer preferences and market dynamics.

Price Execution:

  • Ensure the effective execution of the price strategy, diligently monitoring pricing activities and promptly reporting any deviations.
  • Collaborate with pricing analysts and teams to implement and adjust pricing strategies in response to market changes.

Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate close relationships with suppliers, working in tandem to support the seamless execution of category strategies and exceed performance expectations.
  • Conduct regular supplier reviews and negotiations to optimize collaboration.

Customer-Specific Promotional Activity:

  • Collaborate with customers and customer agencies to design, implement, and evaluate promotional campaigns, advertisements, and marketing strategies tailored to enhance category sales.
  • Leverage customer insights to develop targeted promotional activities.

 

Inventory Control:

  • Implement robust inventory control strategies, aligning stock levels with category strategies, and ensuring optimal inventory turnover.
  • Proactively address excess inventory and stockouts by leveraging data-driven insights and predictive analytics.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including Category Strategy Manager, Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain, to align operational strategies with overarching category goals.
  • Foster effective communication channels to ensure a cohesive and collaborative approach.

NPD (New Product Development):

  • Execute the Go-to-Market plan for branded New Product Development (NPD) initiatives.
  • Lead the operational aspects of Dealer Own Brand (DOB) innovation once approved by the Category Strategy Manager.

Cost Management:

  • Vigilantly monitor and control operational costs within the category, seeking opportunities for cost reductions without compromising quality or service.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to analyze cost structures and implement cost-effective measures.
