Laboratory Technologist  Worcester

Rainbow Chicken is on the hunt for a highly talented and experienced Laboratory Technologist to join our laboratory team. The successful incumbent will report directly into the Laboratory Manager and will be based in Worcester, Western Cape.

 

Role Purpose:

The Laboratory Technologist  will be responsible to perform microbiological evaluations of samples received from processing plant to assist in the quality control of all procedures and all production units.

 

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently when required.
  • Health/Safety/OHS/ISO practices and regulations applicable to laboratory

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • BSc. in Microbiology or similar qualification with microbiology as a main subject 
  • ISO 17025: 2017 certificate, with prior experience as Technical Signatory 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an ISO17025 accredited microbiology Laboratory

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, organise and control the activities in the department (Bacteriology) using prescribed procedures.
  • Perform all the required microbial evaluations as per the prescribed procedures.
  • Partake in all PTS subscribed to by the laboratory.
  • Ensure that all incoming samples are correctly identified and processed in accordance with prescribed procedures from the Laboratory Procedures Manual.
  • Inform the Quality Supervisor immediately of any non-conformances. 
  • Be aware of risk opportunities and improvements relating to the area of responsibility and report to the Quality Supervisor.
  • Always adhere to GLP’s and all Health & Safety protocols and report any non-compliance.
  • Ensure that examination of all samples commences in accordance with the Laboratory Procedures Manual.
  • Inform the laboratory manager immediately of any exceptional test result that may require action.
  • Ensure that all media has passed a quality assurance test and that the related records are always maintained.
  • Ensure that all media produced to support the growth of bacterial isolates is quality controlled and recorded in the relevant file.
  • Accountable for adequate stock levels to their area of responsibilities.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is always clean and tidy.
  • Allocate laboratory numbers prior testing, via LIMS
