Key Responsibilities Operations Management Conduct operational planning for future production with the Growers. Manage the various Contract Grower relationships under your responsibility to achieve production targets at the lowest possible cost. Ensure operational planning, placements or depletions are completed and implemented by Agricultural Planning to ensure optimal production. Execute annual objectives for the Contract Grower department. Advise and assess the various Contract Grower farms to receive chicks in accordance with best operating practices (BOP’s). Manage the interaction on feed stock levels and queries when necessary. Check that the grading of chicks is done according to best operating practice and that the relevant data is recorded on the flock sheet. Ensure that the ventilation and lighting systems are working properly to enable correct levels of production output through the Contract Growers. Ensure the submission of samples to the laboratory (blood, water, dust, mortality, and feed) as required by best operating practices to enable proactive management of potential animal health issues. Ensure that all mortalities are removed from the chicken sheds as per best operating procedure and removed from site daily to prevent potential contamination and bio-security issues. Manage the vaccination process to ensure immunizations and vaccinations are done in time and according to the RPM, BOP and veterinary specifications. Ensure that hygiene standards are maintained through fumigation in accordance with BOP. Reports on a weekly basis on actual technical KPI’s versus budget and works with team to address the areas of non-conformance or concern proactively and timeously. Supports Operations asset productivity through agreed KPIs and efficiencies. Information and Data Management Analyze livestock growth performance and advise on adjustment to farming practices to ensure performance delivers the right bird. Use relevant information from Agric cubes and MTech to analyze and to advise on the right decisions with regard to operational management and costs. Maintain and report management information to the Agriculture Executive. Provide support for all checks are performed and recorded on the correct documents by the Contract Grower. Budget and Cost Control Provide technical support for the Contract Grower farms meet budgetary targets by working within agreed financial boundaries. Provide input into annual Contract Grower capex requirements and implement approved technical programmes. Administration Ensure that daily flock data is captured accurately and promptly into the information system daily. Ensure that daily/ weekly and monthly reports are comprehensive and submitted on time to enable effective decision-making and proactive trend analysis. Ensure that daily utility meter readings (water/gas/electricity) are taken and communicated to the relevant administration clerk. Monitor and advise to record feed levels by the Contract Grower daily to enable the calculation of relevant statistics. Support Commercial and Supply Planner in the management of the contracts and their deliverables. Leadership Coach and support team members where necessary to achieve individual, farm and strategic objectives. Manage the employee relations climate and ensure corrective action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and company policy. Bio-Security Management Apply all other bio-security standards in accordance with BOP and the RPM. Ensure that cleanout and housekeeping are done properly (i.e., the farms are properly washed and sanitized at cleanout, lawn and grass under the fencing is kept short, drains on site are kept clean, all waste and debris from the site is removed and buildings on site are properly maintained). Support and provide technical advice to contract Grower on the implementation of bio-security measures and management. Customer Service Management Drives technical customer service through KPI and efficiency achievement. Ensure compliance with the national best operation practice. Supports Rainbow Agricultural Division by conducting farm visits and contributing to the monthly supply chain technical meeting. Onboards new Contract Growers to the Rainbow way of working Financial Management Liaises with Supply Planner and Commercial teams regarding contractual variances monthly. Reacts to any variances from standard. Implements and encourages cost cutting initiatives within the technical department where these do not impact on long term business sustainability. Drives the process of setting budgeted operational costs and standard bird cost for the cycle. Compiles list monthly. KPI’s Farm flock performance (TEHH, hygiene pass rates, rejects, ADG, FCR, mortality, ammonia burns, farm condemns) (as applicable) Data capturing rate and accuracy. Contract Grower Farm production numbers ( broilers) Farm production quality (fertility, culls and quality of chicks and broilers) (as applicable) Farm vaccination programme coverage Farm equipment reliability Contract Grower Farm budget vs expenditure Knowlegde and Competence Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership skills. Have the ability to communicate on all levels within the company and with contract growers. Results driven person. Good facilitation skills Ability to easily adapt in a changing environment and be innovative by nature. Opportunity to run wholly owned farms. Accuracy with the numbers Management of contract and SLA’s Excellent Problem-solving skills QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Matric A degree or diploma in Agriculture (3 years) Valid Code EB drivers’ license – extensive travel and own vehicle Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar environment, 2 to 3 of which should be in a supervisory capacity
