Broiler Production Manager- Rustenburg  Rustenburg

Rainbow Chicken is on the lookout for an experienced Broiler Production Manager to help lead and manage the broiler operations for our Rustenburg Farms. The successful incumbent will need to ensure the optimal number of the right quality birds at the right time and at the lowest cost.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Agriculture (3 years)
  • Valid Code EB drivers’ licence
  • 7 years relevant experience in a similar environment, 5 of which should be in a management capacity.
  • Be willing to relocate and reside in Rustenburg

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning and Management

  • Establish and maintain systems for receiving broilers across the region.
  • Establish and maintain updated ISO systems for the operation.
  • Oversee the placement and catching of chickens.
  • Meeting and exceeding set Broiler KPI’s
  • Liaise with the agricultural planners to ensure alignment of operations.
  • Monitor compliance with best operating practices for stockmanship to ensure optimum levels of bird health across the region.
  • Monitor stock health and communicate to the Agricultural Executive and the Vet promptly.

Strategic Contribution

  • Input into SIA operational targets, set clear production-related cost centre targets and monitor their achievement across the region.
  • Conduct weekly operations meetings to address challenges, review performance and plan for future optimum production.

Services Management

  • Manage the supply of services and products to farm managers.
  • Manage regional systems and procedures.
  • Oversee the services contracts operating within the region and their performance against standard.

 

Financial Management

  • Formulate and manage the cost centre budget (including employee costs, utilities, maintenance, outsourced services and consumables).
  • Meet financial budgetary targets and control cost.
  • Manage fixed and operational assets ensuring they are utilised optimally.
  • Formulate and implement approved capex plans relevant to the operational area of responsibility taking into account long term sustainability and return on investment.
  • Manage the procurement process within responsibility thresholds and oversee stores requisitions.
  • Oversee regional diesel and coal utilisation against set benchmarks.
  • Manage the housing register.

SHERQ Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant TQMS (including specific key account requirements) and health and safety regulations for optimum production and the provision of a safe working environment.
  • Implement and enforce Bio Security measures to ensure compliance with the highest security standards.
  • Drive compliance with the National Best Operation Practices.
  • Ensure environmentally sustainable practices are implemented and adhered to and that resource usage is managed effectively ( e.g. water, electricity and gas).
  • Work with external and internal auditors to ensure non-compliance is identified and addressed.

Information Management and Reporting

  • Establish a system of accurate data management ensuring that accurate and up-to-date information is captured into the system on a daily basis.
  • Report on operational performance and compliance to the Agricultural Executive.

Regional Management

  • Provide support to the farm manager during recruitment, selection and appointment of farm staff within the parameters of the approved post structure.
  • Conduct regular farm visits.
  • Lead and develop staff within the context of the Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Skills Development Act.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide regular feedback.
  • Manage the activities of the team, ensuring service levels are met and customer service protocols are adhered to.
  • Coach and support team members where necessary to achieve objectives.
  • Manage staff leave and general time management issues in line with organisational deliverables and standards.
  • Manage and deliver on succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders and specialists and ensure optimal turnover and retention levels are maintained.
  • Drive employment equity within the team to ensure that representivity is achieved at all levels and that statutory targets and requirements are met.
  • Champion training and development of the team through the utilisation of available training opportunities or contributing to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with regional and national training specialists.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the regional team.
  • Encourage skills workshops between multi-disciplinary teams and across regional team to achieve skills transfers.
  • Conduct weekly meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.
  • Manage the employee relations climate and ensure corrective action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and company policy.
  • Establish sound staff and labour organising and communication structures and systems.

Maintenance

  • Ensure that an equipment maintenance programme is formulated and implemented to maintain the working condition of equipment and schedule routine or non-routine maintenance.
  • Monitor the execution of the maintenance programme
