Role Purpose

A Raise Bore Operator operates a raise bore drilling machine. The purpose of the role is to ensure theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience to operate a raise bore or blind bore drilling machine. The operator will know the functioning and operating requirements for the raise bore drilling system and ancillary equipment, including health, safety, and environmental requirements, to be able to operate the machine productively and safely.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12
  • National Certificate: Driller Assistant (Raise Bore Operator Assistant) (OFO 831102)
  • Proficient in English read and write
  • At least two years Raise bore assistant/Learner Operator
  • Must be declare fit for underground work
  • Must be able to man handle heavy equipment

Key Responsibilities

1.Β Site Prep and Set-up

  • Prepare the site according to the clients as well as Master Drilling standards in a safe manner to accommodate the Raise bore machine.
  • Plan, arrange and place the equipment in the correct positions.

2. Collaring

  • Align and secure the machine on the correct angle.
  • Collar the hole.
  • Inspect the hole on collar completion.

3. Piloting

  • Pilot the hole.
  • Install rods as hole progress.
  • Manage the operational risks.
  • Monitor the machines condition.
  • Perform daily maintenance on machine.
  • Do continuous condition monitoring.

4. Reaming

  • Install stem into reamer.
  • Install wings on reamer.
  • Install cutters on reamer.
  • Dress reamer.
  • Torque reamer.
  • Collar.
  • Ream hole.
  • Remove reamer.
  • Manage the operational risks

5. Operational Risks

  • Monitor and manage piloting operational risks.
  • Monitor and manage reaming operational risks.
