Rainbow Chickens is looking for a highly talented and experienced Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team. The successful incumbent will report directly into the Laboratory Manager and will be based in Worcester, Western Cape.

 

Role Purpose:

The Laboratory Technician  will be responsible to produce reliable and quality media for testing in accordance with defined quality standards.

• Ability to work as part of a team or independently when required.
• Health/Safety/OHS/ISO practices and regulations applicable to laboratory

Required Qualification and Experience:

• BSc. in Microbiology or similar qualification with microbiology as a main subject 
• ISO 17025: 2017 certificate
• Minimum of 1 (one) years’ experience in an ISO17025 accredited microbiology Laboratory

 

Key responsibilities:

• Cleaning and sterilizing laboratory equipment, maintaining an inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly.

• Preparing and labelling samples for microbial analysis, as well as tracking sample locations and data in the laboratory's database.

• Conducting routine laboratory tests under the direction of laboratory technologists, such as plating microbial cultures, performing basic microscopy, and performing simple biochemical tests.

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date laboratory records, including experimental protocols, test results, and equipment maintenance logs.

• Assisting with the cleaning and organization of the laboratory space, as well as helping to manage laboratory supplies and equipment inventory.

• Always following laboratory safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and properly disposing of hazardous waste.

• Working with laboratory technologists to ensure that laboratory tests are conducted efficiently and effectively.
