Yard Worker - Build It, Rehoboth  Rehoboth

1. Main Function of the Role

The Yard Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe yard environment while ensuring that all building materials and products are stored correctly, clearly priced, and easily accessible. The role supports smooth daily operations by assisting customers with loading and unloading, ensuring accurate product handling, and upholding company safety and housekeeping standards. The Yard Worker plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service and contributing to efficient stock management within the yard.


2. Key Performance Areas

  • Yard Maintenance & Organization

    • Ensure all stock is neatly packed, safely stacked, and stored according to company standards.

    • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the yard and all external areas.

    • Regularly inspect the yard to identify hazards, misplaced stock, or unsafe conditions.

    • Ensure all materials are clearly labeled and accurately priced.

  • Customer Assistance

    • Greet and assist customers in locating, loading, and unloading materials safely and efficiently.

    • Provide friendly and professional service to ensure customer satisfaction.

    • Handle materials with care to prevent damage during loading and unloading.

  • Stock Handling & Operations

    • Assist with receiving, sorting, and storing incoming stock.

    • Support dispatch operations, ensuring accurate and safe handling of outgoing goods.

    • Report damaged, missing, or mispriced stock immediately to the Yard Supervisor.

    • Operate yard equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely (if trained and licensed).

  • Health, Safety & Compliance

    • Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company health and safety policies.

    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required at all times.

    • Report accidents, near misses, or unsafe practices promptly.

    • Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment for both staff and customers.


3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum qualification: Senior Secondary Certificate with 23 points (Grade 12 or equivalent).

  • 3-5 years experience in a hardware, construction, or yard environment (advantageous but not essential).

  • Forklift operating skills and valid forklift license preferred.

  • Experience in stock handling, loading, and offloading of materials advantageous.

  • Good understanding of safety and manual handling practices.
