EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST - 24 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The role is responsible for maintaining positive employee relationships and ensuring compliance with employment laws. This includes providing advisory and counselling services, conflict resolution, ensure adherence to employment act and employee relations policies & procedures, facilitating grievance and disciplinary cases, industrial/labor relations, and monitoring compliance programs.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Provide guidance and support to management and human resources staff in addressing employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Handle employee complaints and grievances, conducting thorough and impartial investigations to determine the accuracy and validity of the claims.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, HR, and other stakeholders, to develop and implement effective employee relations strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Mediate and facilitate resolutions in complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions and workplace conflicts.
  • Conduct training programs and workshops for employees and managers to promote a positive work environment, diversity and inclusion, and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Stay updated on employment laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to employee relations, making recommendations for policy updates or changes as necessary.
  • Analyze employee data and trends to identify potential issues or areas of improvement, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with labour unions and participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Assist in the development and execution of employee engagement initiatives, including employee recognition programs, surveys, and activities that foster a positive company culture.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations records, ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Certification in Employee Relations is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in employee relations, labour relations, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of local and national labour laws and regulations.
  • Experience in handling complex employee relations issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in a supervisory or leadership role, with the ability to provide guidance and support to staff and management.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret data and trends to make informed decisions.
  • Solid understanding of organizational dynamics and the ability to navigate challenging employee relations situations.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs related to employee relations and compliance.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
