Purpose

The incumbent will be responsible to physically apply barcode labels to all stock received into the warehouse, accurately and neatly, before it is passed to Stock Controllers for binning. The Barcode Labelling Assistant ensures every item is labelled clearly in the correct place on the product, and ready for scanning by the rest of the warehouse team.

Requirements

  • Completed NSSCO/NSSCAS or Grade 12.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, stock, labelling or retail environment will be an advantage.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work accurately with barcodes, product codes and stock information.
  • Good numerical and basic administrative skills.
  • High level of accuracy.

Key Result Areas

  • Collect printed barcode labels from the Receiving Supervisor / label printer station.
  • Apply the correct barcode label to each item received, matching the label to the product.
  • Place labels neatly, in a visible spot, and in the same standard position across similar items.
  • Handle stock carefully to avoid damage while labelling.
  • Keep labelled and unlabeled stock physically separated at the labelling station.
  • Report any damaged goods, missing items, or packaging issues to the Receiving Supervisor.
  • Assist with unpacking boxes where required, to allow labelling.
  • Assist with moving labelled stock to the handover point for the Stock Controllers.
  • Keep the labelling workstation neat, tidy, and free of loose labels or waste at all times.
  • Follow all safe lifting and manual handling procedures.
  • Report any spills, damaged pallets, or safety hazards immediately.
  • Participate actively in scheduled stock takes and cycle counts.

  • Good eyesight and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to follow simple instructions accurately.
  • Willingness to do repetitive work with high accuracy.
  • In our fast-paced environment, the candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter, being able to work in a team and individually with total integrity.
