To plan, organise, control and carry out maintenance of currency processing and handling machines, forklifts and other machines and equipment used in the cash management of the Currency Unit and ensure uninterrupted operation of such machines and equipment in order to enhance efficiency

JOB REQUIREMENTS  

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related fields plus two years relevant post qualification experience

 

KEY RESULT AREAS

  1. Minimal downtime of all currency processing and handling machines and equipment in the Currency Unit
  2. Effective management of stock of spare parts to ensure availability for the maintenance of all machines and equipment in the Currency Unit
  3. Effective supervision of and provision of guidance to Machine Operators to ensure proper handling and operation of machines and equipment to minimise faults resulting from mishandling

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, oversees and executes preventative maintenance of all currency processing and handling machines and equipment within schedule and budget and gives due regard to operating considerations
  2. Develops plans to meet emergency situations and unusual events after assessing factors and conditions affecting maintenance requirements of machines and equipment
  3. Carries out market research on currency processing machines and handling equipment and provides advice on same;
  4. Provides onsite first level support and maintenance of all machines and equipment in the cash management of the Currency Unit
  5. Investigates machine, equipment and other related faults and institutes necessary remedial actions and, where necessary, escalates the problem to the vendors while giving due regard to operational exigencies;
  6. Carries out routine maintenance and calibration of banknote and coin sorting and counting machines in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and manuals
  7. Performs regular inspections of currency processing systems and submit verbal and written reports thereof to Branch Management for strategic decisions;
  8. Ensures that Operators comply with all applicable policies, procedures and guidelines as well as with all recommended safety procedures, standards and practices to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations;
  9. Maintains optimum stock of spare parts for the machines and related equipment, and initiates placement of orders with the suppliers;
  10. Monitors operation of the banknote sorting machines to facilitate timely identification and resolution of problems
  11. Reports major faults timely to both the vendor/supplier and the Branch Management;
  12. Supervises the usage of forklifts and other equipment and machinery used to lift and move currency;
  13. Maintains an occurrence register showing when faults were identified, escalated to the vendors/suppliers and when they were resolved;
  14. Compiles monthly reports on performance of machines and nature of faults reported;
  15. Trains Operators on correct use and handing of all machines and equipment used in the Currency Unit, as well as training new staff on machine operation and basic maintenance;
  16. Undertakes basic configuration and necessary machine adjustments;
  17. Prepares annual capital and re-current budgets for machines and spare parts, as well as for maintenance and licensing
  18. Implements and monitors annual budgets for machines and equipment used in the Unit; and
  19. Undertakes such other related duties as directed by the Assistant Currency Manager and/or Regional Manager
