1. Main Function of the Role

The Sales Representative is responsible for driving sales growth by building and maintaining strong customer relationships, promoting products, and ensuring profitable agreements. The role focuses on achieving sales targets, managing customer accounts, and maintaining competitiveness through market awareness and effective negotiation.

 

2. Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Achieve sales targets in line with budgets.
  • Secure and maintain supply agreements with key customers.
  • Drive profitable deals and negotiations.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Conduct regular customer visits based on call cycles (weekly, monthly, quarterly).
  • Promote and market products effectively to customers.
  • Provide pricing, product comparisons, and tailored solutions.
  • Follow up on orders and communicate any issues proactively.
  • Provide feedback on market trends and competitiveness.

Stock Control

  • Ensure stock holding agreements are in place.
  • Monitor and minimize dormant or slow-moving stock.
  • Maintain stock levels in line with customer requirements and agreements.

Administration & Debtors Management

  • Ensure debtors remain within agreed payment terms.
  • Manage cash sales and ensure payments are received.
  • Follow company procedures for ordering, claims, and quality assurance.

Supplier Liaison

  • Promote supplier products and expand market reach.
  • Negotiate pricing and agreements that are mutually beneficial.
  • Coordinate with production on special customer requirements.

Cost & Profit Management

  • Ensure pricing remains competitive and profitable (minimum Cost + 15%).
  • Apply appropriate discounts aligned with market conditions.
  • Manage claims efficiently and ensure resolution.

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (minimum requirement).
  • 3–5 years’ sales experience (preferred).
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Sales and Marketing Diploma (advantageous).
  • Experience in FMCG or related industries is beneficial.
