A vacancy currently exists for a Graduate Nutritionist on a 12-month fixed-term contract at Meadow Feeds Paarl in the Western Cape.

The successful candidate would be responsible for:

  • Assisting with feed formulation and nutrition under the guidance of senior nutritionists.
  • Providing nutritional and technical support to operations, field staff and customers.
  • Assisting with laboratory operations, quality assurance, and feed quality monitoring.
  • Supporting feed trials, nutritional evaluations, data analysis and reporting.
  • Maintaining accurate technical records and completing routine, hands-on administrative and operational tasks as part of the day-to-day nutrition function.
  • Working with production, quality, technical and commercial teams to support operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Supporting compliance with relevant industry legislation and company standards, including Act 36 of 1947, the AFMA Code of Conduct, and the Astral Code of Conduct.

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • A BSc Agricultural degree with a major in Animal Nutrition, preferably with a monogastric focus.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Animal Nutrition will be advantageous.
  • A recent graduate or candidate with up to two years' relevant experience.
  • Exposure to poultry and/or pig production systems would be advantageous.
  • A sound understanding of animal nutrition and feed formulation principles, with the ability to apply these practically and logically.
  • A critical and accurate approach to data, calculations and technical tasks, with strong attention to detail.
  • A self-starter who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of tasks, and follows through independently under the guidance of senior nutritionists.
  • Good time-management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance technical, administrative and operational responsibilities.
  • Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid Code 8 driver's license and fluency in English and Afrikaans.

Nature of the role: This is a mill-based role withΒ a 24/7 operation, combining technical nutrition, routine administration and operational support, with regular after-hours availability required.
