Job Purpose:

To provide strategic and operational leadership to the Risk and Compliance Department by ensuring the Group adopts effective enterprise-risk management as well as good corporate governance in all its business activities, processes and systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops Risk and Compliance policies and procedures at Business level
  • Facilitates and promotes the understanding of operational risk management for Hollard Life
  • Advises business on legal matters
  • Liasion with the Company appointed Attorneys on legal matters
  • Leads and supports implementation of operational risk initiatives for the business
  • Pro-actively communicates with the Managing Director (Life) and the Chief of Risk regarding operational risk issues
  • Coordinates and consolidates risk registers for reporting to relevant governance structures
  • Designs and implements control measures and monitoring plans for compliance and operational risk management
  • Undertakes and/or coordinates periodic monitoring (assessments) activities at Departmental level and escalates findings or breaches to the Managing Director (Life) and the Chief of Risk as and when they occur
  • Ensures risks and issues identified are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Assists the Chief of Risk in the implementation on the risk framework or other relevant initiatives at Business level
  • Develop and implement an AML/CFT compliance programme
  • Monitors internal controls and procedures for money laundering prevention to check if they are functioning as intended and where appropriate, assist in the investigation of financial crime risks’
  • Ensure submission of compliance statutory returns and supervisory reports to the regulatory authorities
  • Undertakes other duties as directed by the Group’s Board of Directors and/or the Group’s Executive Management in support of the Group’s strategy
     

Required Qualifications:

  • The right candidate must have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Accounting or related field. A certification in Risk Enterprise Management is an added advantage
  • Minimum 2 years’ post qualifications experience.
