County Fair, a Division of Astral Operations Limited is an integrated Poultry producer looking for a Forklift Driver to join their Cold Store Logistics Team based in Epping, Cape Town.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 (minimum Grade 10 essential).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in logistics, warehouse, cold storage, receiving and stock–handling environment.
  • 3 years’ experience as a Forklift driver.
  • Have a valid forklift driver license.
  • Willingness to acquire Reach truck license.

COMPUTER LITERACY USING THE FOLLOWING PACKAGES

  • Basic computer literacy
  •  The use of a scanner

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Must be computer literate and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be numerate and literate (apply basic mathematics calculations).
  • Able to communicate well in both English and Afrikaans languages.
  • Experience with using a hand-held scanner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, honesty, self-driven, responsible and able to use own initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure and swift resolving of employee and management queries.
  • Basic understanding of the 20 Keys concept is essential.
  • Must be able to work independently and cope well under pressure.
  • It is essential that the successful candidate be self-motivated with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • The  accurate, timeous,  planning, control ,co-ordination and complete physical verification of product/stacks  ( all checks) against picking slips, delivery notes  and accurate and neat recording  of other control documents  when offloading transferring stock  and  any other  requirements  with  strict  adherence to all  standards, requirements, policies and procedures and the efficient and effective stock  control of receipts and transfer of all customer orders internal and external on all shifts as per required procedures, controls  and policies at all times.
  • The efficient and effective stock control of  receipt and transfer of  stock and other workload requirements and their alignment with daily workload  to achieve optimal efficiencies, productivity and service delivery to all customers (internal & external).
  • Ensure the accurate checking, scanning and receipt of stock with adherence to all receiving and stock control policies, requirements and procedures.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure product received within compliance with the required temperature, correct pallet quantities, neatly stacked, wrapped, labelled, no loose top layers and pallet label applied correctly and can scan. Report any deviations to Team Leader/ Superintendent.
  • Check all stacks and ensure compliance with company quality standards and stacking requirements. No damaged pallets, skew pallets, loose shrink wrapping, damaged pallets etc. to be received and placed for put away.
  • All non – conforming pallets to be logged on delivery note and control documents and Team Leader to be immediately notified. Non-conforming pallets to be sent to Picking Store.
  • Conduct reconciliation after every delivery on system to ensure all stock is accounted for and placed prior vehicle leaving premises.
  • Ensure the accurate checking and transfer of stock (customer orders) to loading bays, vehicles or required location with adherence to all transfer and stock control policies, requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure verification of pallet number, product code, quantity against pick slips and all quality standards are met prior transferring stock to allocated bay, vehicle or area.
  • Ensure to maintain the correct flows and standards of applicable processes.
  • Adherence and practice to all stock control policies, protocols and practices. Ensure stock is handled by strict stock movement   procedures.
  • Ensure correct product handling (maintain the cold chain).
  • Timeous reporting and elevating of any receipt, transfer delays/ stock discrepancies and non-conformances to Team leader (Operational) / Superintendent.
  • Ensure seal and key procedure is adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure accurate and correct handling and checking of Chep pallets with adherence to all Chep controls, procedures including housekeeping of designated pallet areas. 
  • Operate warehouse equipment (Forklift) safely and efficiently at all times to ensure the safety of one self, stock, equipment, staff, visitors and structures  as examples while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
  • Ensure working area clear any debris, water etc.  when operating equipment. Clean if required.
  •  Ensure when lifting staff in safety cage for cleaning or any other purposes to ensure adherence to all lifting policies, safety regulations, procedures and requirements.
  • Conduct operations and model behaviour that promotes a safe environment. This would include looking in the direction of travel, wearing a seat belt, driving at an appropriate speed and appropriate use of hooter as examples.
  • Conduct daily handling equipment battery water and equipment checks and complete checklists. Report and indicate any faults on checklists.
  • Conduct daily battery and handling equipment cleaning and paint equipment if necessary.
  • Operate gantry/ forklift with adherence to all lifting requirements and procedures when changing batteries.
  • Partake in weekly and monthly cycle counts as per cycle count procedures.
  • Ensure safety and security of the company’s stock and property at all times.
  • Adherence and practice to all company risk management, food safety requirements and housekeeping protocols and practices.
  • Ensure housekeeping of work areas to the required standard and compliance with 20 keys check sheet at all times.
  • Ensure adherence to GMP and GHP principles.
  • Ensure adherence to all legislative and company requirements.
  • Ensure that all business related risks are identified and pro-actively reported to Team Leader (Operational)/ Superintendent.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures in order to minimize the business risks.
  • Full start up and shut down procedures is practiced and adhered to.
  • Daily shift meetings conducted ( 20 keys programme)
  • Ensure at work station at start of shift and all tasks for the shift are completed prior to leaving the workplace.
  • Ensure correctly dressed in the required PPE and clothing basket clean and neatly hung on rails in basket room.
  • Ensure 20 keys programme is promoted, enforced and practiced. Update of MBA boards.
  • Assisting, multi –tasking and filling in other positions if and when required. (Know and able to work in other positions).
  • Attending meetings if and when required.
  • Ensure continuous communication with Team Leader ( Operational) /Superintendent.
  • Provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensure proper and professional communication towards fellow logistics employees, County Fair and Astral employees, customers and suppliers.
  • To take responsibility to accept and promote any business changes to subordinates to ensure the livelihood and well-being of the company.

Other features of the job

  • Due to the nature of the job, extra hours will be required from time to time which may necessitate working into the evening, public holidays or on weekends.
  • You may also be required to travel from time to time.
  • Perform other reasonable duties outside the scope of this job description as might be requested by senior.
  • Staggered tea breaks.
  • Payment for damages to company property or stock damage/loss due to negligence.
