1. Main Function of the Role

The Assistant Accountant supports the Accountant, Financial Manager, and Finance team to ensure accurate financial management and reporting across the dealership. The role involves maintaining financial controls, performing reconciliations, assisting with budgets, managing payments, and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory policies. This position contributes to improving dealership performance through the effective management of assets, processes, and records.

 

2. Key Performance Areas

Finance and Administration

  • Reconcile debtor and inter-company bank accounts daily, adhering to auditor standards.

  • Verify and balance daily receipts, deposits, and bank statements.

  • Process payments, journal entries, bank charges, and transfers accurately and on time.

  • Maintain accurate records of deposits, cheques, and private trips.

  • Ensure all payments are properly authorized and supported by relevant documentation.

  • Support month-end closing procedures and produce accurate financial reports.

  • Maintain strong internal controls, ensuring adherence to the Minimum Control Framework.

  • Assist with annual budget preparation and review.

  • Maintain the company asset register and filing systems.

  • Process credit notes and handle branch and dealer queries promptly.

  • Manage cash flow, verify floor plan reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Pupkewitz Group policies, financial regulations, and statutory requirements.

  • Support internal and external audit processes and respond to audit requests.

Conduct

  • Uphold the company’s values and “Code of Conduct.”

  • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and accountability in all interactions.

General

  • Perform any other reasonable duties as delegated by the Finance Manager.

  • Promote a collaborative and supportive team culture.

 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Accounting or an equivalent financial qualification (1–2 years).

  • Up to 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the motor retail sector.

  • Proven accounting knowledge supported by practical experience and education.
