PURPOSE
The Procurement Specialist – Buyer (Refrigeration) is responsible for sourcing and procuring goods and services within the heating, air-conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration industry. This role ensures the organization secures the necessary supplies at the best quality, price, and timing to support operations and projects. Key responsibilities include identifying and managing supplier relationships, sourcing assigned product groups, and evaluating new product offerings. Strong negotiation skills, market knowledge, and attention to detail are essential to optimizing procurement processes and contributing to the organization's overall success.
REQUIREMENTS
• Grade 12 certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field will be an added advantage.
• 3 - 5 years similar working experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably within the heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration (HVAC-R) or related industry.
• Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
• Familiarity with HVAC-R products, suppliers, and industry trends.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, procurement software and familiarity with an ERP system.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to manage multiple suppliers and projects simultaneously.
• Understanding of cost-saving strategies and procurement best practices.
• Willingness to travel if required.
• A valid driver’s licence.
KEY RESULT AREAS
• Ordering of assigned product groups.
• Arranging couriers and interbranch transfers from the distribution centre to the respective allocated branches.
• Compare the quality and functionality of products from different suppliers that meet the company’s requirements.
• Locate alternative suppliers to ensure the lowest purchasing cost is maintained, without compromising quality, thus creating alternative suppliers should there be any issues with the main supplier.
• Advise all relevant parties on supplier price increases to allow for bulk buying on lower cost thus enabling increase margin opportunity.
• Constant communication with supplier, sharing information – sales, dead stock, new products, pricing, market share, etc.
• Manage the supplier relationship – CRM.
• Manage supplier performance matrix – late deliveries and short deliveries, out of stock, price increase, overall performance.
• Gather market-related information on competitors, their product offering, shelving layout and pricing, compare our offering and pricing and advise management accordingly.
• Liaise with product owners/branch managers to gather inputs, suggestions or concerns on our current product offering also to discuss possible new listings.
• Liaise with suppliers on upcoming promotions/campaigns/specials and advise product owners, branch managers and procurement managers accordingly.
